SACRAMENTO – A Lincoln woman alleges she was not promoted because of gender and sex discrimination.

Lisa Black filed a complaint on Sept. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Farmers Insurance, Farmers Insurance Exchange and Farmers Group Inc., alleging gender discrimination, retaliation and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff has been a claims employee for 16 years. She alleges the defendant was "fraudulently providing passing marks to males while informing females they had failed the testing" to advance to the special claims adjuster level 36 position. She alleges she learned in February that questions had been removed from the exam and that the defendants falsely told her that she had failed and was demoted.

The plaintiff holds Farmers Insurance, Farmers Insurance Exchange and Farmers Group Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly subjected her to adverse employment action because of her sex/gender.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks money judgment, award of punitive damages, costs of suit, prejudgment interest, and any other relief that is just and proper. She is represented by Mark P. Velez of The Velez Law Firm PC in Roseville.
