FRESNO – An insurance company alleges a defective washing machine caused a fire at a Fresno property.

Amco Insurance Co. filed a complaint on Jan. 24 in the Fresno County Superior Court against LG Electronics USA Inc. and Does 1 through 100 alleging negligence and strict products liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is acting as subrogee under an insurance policy it issued to Helidoro Tovar. The suit states on April 11, 2018, a washing machine sold by the defendants was allegedly defective and failed, causing a fire at Tovar's property.

The plaintiff holds LG Electronics USA Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently and carelessly purchased/supplied, assembled or sold a washing machine that caused fire damages and that the machine allegedly was not properly designed or manufactured.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for general and special damages, interest on the principle amount of its damages at 7 percent, and for such other and further relief as the court may deem just. It is represented by Peter A. Lynch of Cozen O'Connor in San Diego.
