DLA Piper issued the following announcement on May 7.
DLA Piper announced that Andrew Serwin has joined the Data Protection, Privacy and Security subgroup of the firm's Intellectual Property and Technology practice as a partner in San Diego.
Serwin advises Fortune 500 and emerging companies on matters relating to privacy, security, crisis management and national security, with an emphasis on international compliance, health privacy, mobile, behavioral advertising, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and wiretap issues, electronic marketing, social media, and compliance with Federal Trade Commission requirements. He has served as lead counsel in a number of FTC matters, matters before the Office of Civil Rights, and state consumer protection and privacy litigation based on alleged misuse of personal information, including class actions and enforcement matters brought by state attorneys general.
"Andy's wealth of experience will allow us to strengthen and expand our core IPT practice offerings, particularly as demand for knowledgeable counsel in the areas of data privacy and cybersecurity continues to rise in California and across the country," said Ann Ford, co-chair of the firm's US Intellectual Property and Technology practice. "Having advised on some of the most high-profile data security incidents and litigation matters in the world, Andy brings a valued skillset to our team, and we are thrilled that he has joined the firm."
"Andy is one of the preeminent privacy and cybersecurity practitioners not only in California, but also in the US. With CCPA data breach class actions coming in 2020, Andy's experience with large-scale data breaches, cybersecurity programs, FTC and OCR investigations and class actions is a perfect fit to expand our privacy and security capabilities," said Jim Halpert, co-chair of DLA Piper's global Data Protection, Privacy and Security practice.
Serwin is the latest addition to the firm's IPT practice, which has also recently welcomed partners Peter Karanjia (Washington, DC), Brian O'Reilly, Michael Furrow (both of New York) and Michael Jay (Los Angeles), as well as Edward McAndrew (Wilmington) and Tracy Shapiro (San Francisco), both of whom are also in the Data Protection, Privacy and Security subgroup.
Serwin received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law and his B.A. from the University of California San Diego.
