Thompson Coburn issued the following announcement on July 23.
Thompson Coburn is pleased to announce that partner Jennifer Post will serve as the managing partner of the Firm’s Los Angeles office. Jennifer succeeds Barry Weisz, who has led the office since its opening in October 2013, the result of Thompson Coburn’s merger with Los Angeles-based Freedman Weisz LLP.
Jennifer, who joined Thompson Coburn in 2016, is a partner in the Firm’s Corporate and Securities group and a member of its Management Committee. Jennifer founded Thompson Coburn’s Blockchain and Digital Currency practice, which serves a broad range of clients engaged in that transformative technology. She is the first LGBTQ attorney to serve as an office managing partner in the Firm’s history.
“I am excited to serve as managing partner of our Los Angeles office,” said Jennifer. “Barry recruited me to join Thompson Coburn, and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to expand on the great work he has contributed over the last six years. I look forward to working with Firm leadership to strengthen our presence in Southern California through strategic growth. I also plan to focus on expanding our service offerings in real estate, technology, labor and employment, litigation, financial services, and health care; cultivating the next generation of Firm leadership; and continuing our firmwide commitment to exceptional client service."
As primary outside counsel for entrepreneurs, venture capital firms and emerging companies, Jennifer has spent three decades guiding clients through all areas of general corporate, securities and finance law, including formation activities, private placements of equity and debt securities, and mergers and acquisitions. Jennifer advises clients on capital raising, alternative asset lending, liquidity events, equity compensation, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
She has twice been named one of the 500 Most Influential People in Los Angeles in 2018 and 2019 by the Los Angeles Business Journal. Jennifer also has been honored as one of Los Angeles’ Most Influential Minority Lawyers and Most Influential Women Lawyers.
As a longtime leader in Southern California’s LGBTQ business and civic communities, Jennifer serves as a board member for the ONE Archives Foundation, the largest repository of LGBTQ materials in the world. Jennifer also participates on the Los Angeles Planning Committee of StartOut, an organization dedicated to connecting and educating LGBT entrepreneurs. Additionally, Jennifer hosts regular meetings in Thompson Coburn’s Los Angeles office for Gaingels, a global network of LGBT+/ally investors and LGBT-led technology companies. Jennifer also leads the West Hollywood chapter of ProVisors.
“We’re excited to support Jennifer’s vision for the future of the office and continue our strategic growth on the West Coast,” said Thompson Coburn Chairman Tom Minogue. “We thank Barry for his tremendous service and leadership in Los Angeles, including growing the office from 10 to 30 attorneys and paralegals and expanding our office capabilities into multiple new practice areas.”
In addition to his leadership of the Los Angeles office, Barry founded the Firm’s nationally recognized Cannabis industry group, which he will continue to co-chair. Barry is active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Hollywood, as well as the Los Angeles Board of Governors for Aish HaTorah.
“It has been an honor to lead our Los Angeles office,” said Barry. “When we became part of Thompson Coburn six years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to predict how fantastically different our office would look today — and I am proud of what we have built. This of course includes the addition of Jennifer as a partner and practice leader. I am proud to pass the baton to an incredibly capable, talented and innovative leader who understands this office, our Firm and the legal market in L.A. I have no doubt she will take us to new levels.”
