Karen P. Hewitt, Christopher Lovrien, and Daniel D. McMillan have been named among the "2019 Top 100 Lawyers in California" by the Daily Journal, California’s legal-industry. This list recognizes lawyers in the Golden State performing cutting-edge legal work. Daily Journal editors reviewed hundreds of submissions to produce the 2019 "Top 100 Lawyers" list.
This is the seventh year Ms. Hewitt has been honored in "Top 100 Lawyers." As Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s San Diego Office. Ms. Hewitt leads a team of more than 60 attorneys who represent major companies nationally and internationally on their most complex issues and disputes relating to intellectual property, corporate, litigation, and white collar matters. Before joining Jones Day in 2010, she served with the U.S. Department of Justice for 18 years and served as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of California from 2007-2010. Ms. Hewitt was named among the "Top 100 Lawyers in California" (2012-2016) and the "Top Women Lawyers" (2013-2018) by the Daily Journal.
Mr. Lovrien is the Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's California Region, which encompasses five offices and nearly 300 lawyers. He is a go-to litigator for corporate clients facing matters that involve significant economic, regulatory, and reputational risk. Mr. Lovrien represents companies in high-stakes commercial disputes, contested bankruptcy matters, and the defense of consumer class actions. As a trial lawyer, he has litigated cases in courts throughout the United States and has substantial experience in arbitration and mediation. Clients also rely on Mr. Lovrien to defend them, and their officers and directors, in internal and SEC investigations.
Mr. McMillan is a recognized leader in the construction industry, with Fortune 500 project owners, contractors, designers, and public entities turning to him for his advice on the largest, most complex, and most challenging projects located throughout the United States and across the globe. He is Co-Leader of the Firm's Construction Practice, one of only five California attorneys receiving the highest ranking in Construction Law from Chambers USA, and recognized as a 2019 BTI Client Service All-Star. Mr. McMillan is equally accomplished in the courtroom and at drafting project contracts. His publications provide guidance to the construction industry on topics ranging from the False Claims Act to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
