Littler Mendelson P.C. issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.

Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has added Tami Penner as special counsel in its San Diego office. She joins the firm from Paul, Plevin, Sullivan & Connaughton, and her arrival follows the recent announcement of Jon Yonemitsu, who joined the firm as a shareholder.

“The San Diego office continues to grow, and we are pleased to have Tami on board,” said Mishell Parreno Taylor, San Diego office managing shareholder. “With more than 25 years of experience representing employers of all sizes, she will be a great addition to our strong San Diego team, and we look forward to tapping into her skills and talents to serve the complex labor and employment compliance needs of our clients.”

Penner advises clients on all aspects of employment law, including employment agreements, wage and hour issues, leaves of absences, disability accommodations, employee policies, privacy, protection of proprietary information, performance management, workplace investigations, discipline and termination.

She has successfully defended clients at both the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts and before administrative agencies, mediators and arbitrators. She works closely with management and human resources professionals and advises multistate employers on many legal topics under various state employment laws, including agency audits, discrimination laws, independent contractor issues, leaves of absence management, complex reductions in force and WARN Act compliance, in-house investigations, occupational safety and background checks.

Along with advising clients, Penner provides regular trainings to management and staff on numerous topics, including preventing workplace harassment, general management principles and best practices, managing employee leaves and disability issues, avoiding wage and hour claims, and the differences between California and federal employment laws for clients with multistate locations.

Penner earned her J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law and her B.A. from the University of Nebraska.
