Littler Mendelson issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, was recognized for its digital capabilities and innovative response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Financial Times 2020 North America Innovative Lawyers report.

Littler won in the category of “Digitising the Practice of Law” for its Littler onDemand (LoD) platform and ranked third in a list of the “Most Digital Law Firms.” The firm was also among the top 20 firms selected as the “Most Rounded Performers” for presenting the strongest approach to their businesses in 2020 and was shortlisted in the “Rethinking the Workplace” category.

“In a year that has been unlike any other, we are proud of how our team came together to guide clients through a myriad of unprecedented workplace issues, while also addressing the unique challenges facing our own employees,” said Tom Bender and Jeremy Roth, co-managing directors of Littler, in a joint statement. “It is particularly gratifying to be recognized for our data-driven approach to serving clients, which is a culmination of a decades’ worth of thoughtful investments in technology and data solutions. This has enabled us to create a comprehensive data ecosystem and suite of digital tools that we have drawn on to effectively guide clients through the pandemic.”

In the “Digitising the Practice of Law” category, the report recognized LoD as not only an innovative technology-based platform, but one that puts the client experience first and uses data to enhance problem solving. Created by a team led by shareholder Scott Forman, LoD provides companies with quick, consistent and thorough answers to workplace legal questions, as well as data-driven insights to identify trends, manage risk and drive stronger business decisions. When COVID-19 hit, the firm was able to quickly repurpose LoD – which launched in May 2019 as a client-facing platform – to also be used to address the high volume of workplace-related questions resulting from the pandemic.

The “Rethinking the Workplace” category focused on ways law firms have adapted their policies and practices in the remote work environment. Littler was shortlisted based on its various initiatives to maintain its collaborative culture and support employees in a virtual work environment, including its comprehensive Parenting Initiative and investment in virtual litigation technology and training.

In each of these categories, Littler was the only labor and employment law firm listed.

In addition to the Financial Times, Littler’s forward-thinking approach has drawn accolades from other major organizations that recognize legal innovation, including the American Lawyer, National Law Journal, Association of Corporate Counsel, International Legal Technology Association, College of Law Practice Management and Fastcase 50.
