Surgeon sues when co-worker hits her with metal cart

Federal Court
Phanlarry

Larry Phan for the plaintiff

SAN JOSE - A personal injury lawsuit pinned on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA Hospital in Palo Alto calls for the defendants to pay a Santa Clara County woman who says she was rammed by a cart while working in the hospital in August of 2019.

According to the petition filed on March 29 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, plaintiff Iona Baiu was a chief resident surgeon at the facility. As she was exiting a patient room on August 16, Baiu says another hospital employee, defendant Tanya Jackson, pushed a heavy metal cart into the plaintiff, causing injuries.

Baiu is demanding payback from the defendants in excess of the court's jurisdictional limit for her suffering from being hit by the cart. She is represented by Dreyer Babich Buccola Wood Campora LLP.
