SACRAMENTO - Megan White filed a federal lawsuit on November 30 in the Eastern District of California against the Sacramento Police Department, the City of Sacramento, and Daniel Hahn for excessive force.

According to the lawsuit, White, a 34-year-old Black woman, runs a grassroots community group in Sacramento and was severely injured by the Sacramento police while observing counter-protests in late 2020 and early 2021 after she attempted to help others the police were assaulting.

White was caused to suffer severe bruising, chronic knee and hip pain, chemical burns, and a shoulder injury.

White seeks damages in an amount deemed appropriate by the court, punitive damages, injunctive relief, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees and cost of suit. White is represented by John P. Flynn of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati.
