SAN FRANCISCO - A man is suing a hotel for because its rooms are allegedly inaccessible to handicapped individuals.

Chris Langer filed a lawsuit on Jan. 25 San Francisco Superior Court against Music City Hotel, LP & Pacific equities Pacific Equities West, LLC. for violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

According to the lawsuit, Langer is a paraplegic and uses a wheelchair for mobility. He also suffers from Delayed Endolymphatic Hydrops (DEH) which has caused permanent partial hearing loss and he utilizes listening devices.

In September 2021, Langer booked a hotel room at Music City Hotel. Upon arrival in February, Langer found the room not to be accessible for his wheelchair, especially the bathroom, the suit says. Plaintiff also claims that rooms are required to provide certain features designated for persons with hearing impairments and that his room did not have these accessibility features. Plaintiff claims that defendant is in direct violation of ADA and Unruh Civil Rights Act or not accommodating their facilities with handicap accessible features.

Langer seeks equitable nominal damages, damages under the Unruh Civil Rights Act with a statutory minimum of $4,000 for each offense, attorney’s fees and cost of suit. Langer is represented by Amanda Seabock.
