Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues the strategic expansion of its Real Estate Practice in Northern California with the addition of Jasmine Tzeng Martin as a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco office.
Martin joins the firm from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, reuniting with her former colleague Jacobus "Jack" D. Machalow who re-joined Greenberg Traurig in May as a shareholder. Their joining brings the real estate team in San Francisco to more than 10 attorneys, including transactional, litigation, tax, and construction practitioners, providing clients a complete industry offering in the market.
“Jasmine’s and Jack’s accomplished backgrounds will further strengthen the team in our West Coast offices as we continue to meet client demand,” said G. Michelle Ferreira and Bradley R. Marsh, co-managing shareholders of the San Francisco office. “Their dedication to a business-focused legal approach in their practices will enhance our firm’s presence in the Northern California market.”
Martin advises private equity real estate funds, fund managers and sponsors, developers, and other institutional real estate investors and lenders. Her practice includes a particular focus on the representation of clients in connection with mezzanine financing, construction financing, joint ventures, and other sophisticated financing transactions. Martin represents clients both in the Bay Area and nationally across a wide range of asset classes, including hotels, mixed-use developments, retail, condominiums, multifamily housing, and offices.
Machalow structures development deals and negotiates joint ventures for both capital partners and developers/operators. His practice includes organizing private real estate investment funds and negotiating and closing acquisitions, dispositions, and equity and debt financing transactions. Machalow also represents pension fund advisors, private investors, private equity funds, fund managers, and developers in mergers and fund investments.
“Our work in the real estate industry has been a critical part of the firm’s history for more than 50 years. With the addition of Jasmine and Jack, we continue to ensure that we have the ability to handle the full spectrum of real estate legal needs,” said Real Estate Practice Co-Chair Stephen L. Rabinowitz, who leads the practice along with Michael J. Baum, Richard J. Giusto, and Dr. Christian Schede. “Their experience in the real estate industry, both in Northern California and nationwide, is a strong fit for our global and national real estate network.”
Martin received her J.D. from the University of California Davis School of Law and a B.A. from the University of California Berkeley. Machalow received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
