Fox Rothschild LLP congratulates Michael A. Sweet on being elected President of the California Bankruptcy Forum for the 2023-2024 term.

A longstanding member of the Forum, Sweet will lead nearly 1,000 insolvency professionals in promoting and enhancing the value of the bankruptcy system and process in the state of California through educational programming and support.

Chair of Fox Rothschild’s nationwide Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy Department, Sweet represents debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees and trustees in bankruptcy matters nationwide.

Named among the leading attorneys for bankruptcy/restructuring in California by Chambers USA, he has extensive experience in all facets of bankruptcy. Sweet frequently advises clients in financial distress on bankruptcy avoidance. He has assisted multiple public agencies in Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy proceedings, and in restructuring their finances to avoid Chapter 9. 

Sweet was also recently appointed Chair of the California Citizens Compensation Commission by Gov. Gavin Newsom and serves as a member of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission.

He earned his J.D. from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from Brandeis University.
