SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco man says he was injured at Peet's Coffee when a portion of ceiling tile fell and struck him.

Peet's Coffee Inc., Peet's Coffee & Tea LLC and 30 unnamed individuals were all named as defendants in the suit.

James Chan was at Peet's Coffee in San Francisco on Feb. 9, 2023, and was standing in line when part of the ceiling fell and struck him, according to a complaint filed Oct. 3 in San Francisco County Superior Court.

Chan claims the defendants were negligent in failing to use reasonable care to prevent harm to patrons.

The plaintiff sustained personal injuries as a result of the incident, according to the suit.

Chan claims he had to seek medical services, hospitalization and medical supplies after the incident.

"As a result of the negligence of Defendants, Plaintiff...has been deprived of earnings and earning capacity and the ability to engage in his usual and customary activities and will in the future be deprived thereof, all in an amount according to proof at trial," the complaint states.

Chan claims the defendants had a duty of reasonable care for the premises and should have kept the property in a safe condition so that he, or others, would not have been injured on the property.

Chan is seeking general and special damages. He is represented by Ryan T. Dunn of Dunn & Panagotacos LLP.
