Continuing the momentum of litigator Tony Weibell’s arrival in Northern California earlier this month, Mayer Brown announces the arrival of Sophia (Sophie) Mancall-Bitel as a partner in its Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner in Los Angeles. Sophie joins from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

“Sophie’s experience in technology litigation is a synergistic fit for our premier litigation offerings, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our expanding team,” said Richard Spehr, the leader of Mayer Brown’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice.

Sophie represents clients in a wide array of complex commercial litigation matters, including class actions, business disputes, securities litigations, and derivative suits. She has represented corporations and individuals in many industries, including financial services, energy, health care, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, and food and beverage.

“I'm excited to continue working alongside Tony and join the firm's top-flight litigation team to assist clients, particularly in the technology industry, in navigating high-stakes matters within an increasingly complex litigation environment,” said Sophie.

In recent years, Sophie has represented leading internet and technology companies, such as TikTok (ByteDance), in cutting-edge consumer class actions. She has been at the forefront of the current wave of website pixel litigation and related internet data privacy cases. She is particularly skilled in helping technology companies navigate these complex lawsuits through a recent trend of adverse judicial decisions.

Sophie’s commercial litigation experience includes representing a major technology company in a securities case; an energy company in a fraudulent transfer litigation by the creditors of its former subsidiary after a spin-off; a food and beverage holding company in a waterfall dispute following the closing of a deal; several special purpose acquisition companies in litigations filed by shareholders after the announcements of their target acquisitions; a financial services institution and one of its officers in connection with a dispute regarding the financing of a company in which it invested; and a company in actions against former employees regarding the company’s confidential information. Outside her practice, Sophie co-chairs the Law Firm Anti-Racism Alliance’s Reproductive Justice Working Group.

John Nadolenco, the managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office, added, “Securities litigation filings continue to increase across California courts, and privacy class actions and internet class action-related litigations are at an all-time high. Sophie’s arrival reaffirms Mayer Brown’s commitment to enhancing our litigation capabilities in the California market to align with the evolving and intricate litigation landscape.”
