A recent court filing reveals a tragic case of alleged medical malpractice that resulted in the death of a young mother. The Estate of Ashley Jackson and her minor son, Seti Jones, represented by Keith Jackson as Guardian ad Litem, filed a complaint on July 8, 2024, in the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, against the City and County of San Francisco and several healthcare providers associated with Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

The plaintiffs allege that Ashley Jackson died due to negligent medical care following an outpatient uterine aspiration abortion performed at the Women's Options Center at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital on June 16, 2023. According to the complaint, the defendants failed to provide timely and appropriate evaluation, advice, diagnosis, and treatment. This negligence allegedly led to septic abortion complicated by severe uterine infection, sepsis, shock, and ultimately cardiac arrest on June 21, 2023. The plaintiffs claim that the hospital staff did not obtain informed consent for the procedure from Ashley Jackson or any authorized representative.

The lawsuit names multiple defendants including individual doctors such as Jennifer Z. Qin, M.D., Rebecca Jackson, M.D., Eleanor A. Drey, M.D., and others who were involved in Ashley's care. It is asserted that these healthcare professionals did not exercise the degree of skill and knowledge ordinarily possessed by their peers in similar localities. The plaintiffs also accuse the hospital administration of failing to adequately select competent medical staff and neglecting to periodically review their competency.

Keith Jackson declared under penalty of perjury that his daughter Ashley was never married and had one child—Seti Jones—who is now her sole heir. The plaintiffs are seeking various forms of relief including general damages for emotional distress and pecuniary losses such as love, affection, companionship, support from Ashley Jackson; special damages for medical expenses; funeral expenses; burial expenses; prejudgment interest; penalties; costs of suit incurred; and other relief deemed just by the court.

The attorneys representing the plaintiffs are Aaron R. Stiegler from Carpenter & Zuckerman law firm. The case is presided over by Judge Clare with Case ID CGC-24-616239.
