A tragic case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced in Sacramento, California, where a grieving daughter has filed a lawsuit against a nursing center for the wrongful death of her father. On July 11, 2024, Melanie Corral lodged a complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento, accusing River Bend Holdings, LLC, doing business as River Bend Nursing Center, of professional medical negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint filed by Corral's attorney Jon-Paul Moorehead from the Law Offices of Richard W. Meier, the case revolves around the unfortunate demise of Douglas Kytonen. The plaintiff alleges that Kytonen's death was directly caused by the negligent actions and omissions of River Bend Nursing Center and its staff. The narrative begins on February 15, 2023, when Kytonen was involved in a motor vehicle accident resulting in severe injuries including broken legs and back. Following his hospitalization at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, he was admitted to River Bend Nursing Center.

The lawsuit claims that upon his admission to River Bend Nursing Center, the defendants were or should have been aware of Kytonen’s critical condition and high fall risk due to his injuries and subsequent diagnoses of pneumonia and COVID-19. Despite this knowledge, it is alleged that the nursing center failed to take adequate precautions to prevent him from falling. "On information and belief," reads the complaint, "Douglas Kytonen suffered a serious fall while under the care and treatment of Defendants." Shockingly, after this fall, it is claimed that Kytonen was merely placed back into his bed without being transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

The plaintiff asserts that this lack of proper care continued until April 13, 2023, when Kytonen tragically passed away at River Bend Nursing Center. The lawsuit accuses the defendants of breaching their duty to provide an appropriate standard of care expected from reasonably careful medical professionals under similar circumstances. This breach allegedly included failing to supervise Kytonen adequately and not implementing necessary safety measures or timely follow-up care after his fall.

Melanie Corral contends that these negligent actions were substantial factors leading to her father's untimely death. As a result, she claims significant personal losses including companionship, comfort, moral support, financial support among others provided by her father. She seeks all allowable wrongful death damages as per C.C.P section 377.61 along with general and special damages according to proof.

Representing Melanie Corral is Jon-Paul Moorehead from the Law Offices of Richard W. Meier while no specific attorneys for River Bend Holdings are mentioned in the document. The case is being presided over by judges in Sacramento County Superior Court under Case No: SAC O19516.
