A couple from California has filed a lawsuit following a motor vehicle collision that left them with significant injuries. The complaint, filed by Brian Neil Dennis and Melinda Louise Dennis in the Superior Court of California, County of Sacramento on August 6, 2024, names Taliah Willis, John Arley Burns, and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company as defendants.
According to the court documents, the incident occurred on August 13, 2022. Brian Neil Dennis was driving north-east on Pleasant Grove Boulevard in Roseville when his vehicle was struck by another car driven by Taliah Willis. The plaintiffs allege that Willis was negligent in her driving, violating multiple sections of the California Vehicle Code including Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) and Section 22107 (Unsafe Lane Change). These violations allegedly led to the collision which caused severe personal injuries to both Brian and Melinda Dennis.
The complaint further states that John Arley Burns owned the vehicle driven by Willis and is accused of negligent entrustment. It is alleged that Burns knew or should have known that Willis was unfit to drive but allowed her to operate the vehicle regardless. This negligence is claimed to be a substantial factor in causing harm to Brian Neil Dennis.
The plaintiffs are seeking various forms of relief from the court. They are asking for general damages exceeding $50,000 for each plaintiff due to their physical and mental suffering. Additionally, they seek compensation for medical expenses incurred as a result of the accident, loss of earnings due to their inability to work, attorney fees, prejudgment interest on general and special damages as per Civil Code section 3291, and all other costs associated with the suit.
