The American Lawyer has named Troutman Pepper a finalist in four categories for the 2024 American Lawyer Industry Awards. The firm has been shortlisted for the following: Best Client-Law Firm Team, Best Business Team, Best Professional Development Initiative, and the Legal Services Innovation Award.

The American Lawyer Industry Awards honor the most exceptional lawyers, law firms, legal departments, and organizations in the country. The winners will be announced at an awards reception on Nov. 13.

Best Client-Law Firm Team | Dominion Energy + Troutman PepperTroutman Pepper’s landmark Supreme Court win with co-counsel Dominion Energy in Rudisill v. McDonough, which restored billions in educational benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill for 1.7 million veterans, is why the dynamic duo is a finalist for the Best Client-Law Firm Team. The team’s pro bono victory in Rudisill has far-reaching implications, allowing the nation’s long-serving veterans to receive significantly more, life-changing educational benefits for their service.

Best Business TeamTroutman Pepper’s Client Experience (CX) team is shortlisted for the Best Business Team award, which honors business teams that have made an identifiable impact on their organization, from how it is run to the client work they have brought in and anything in between. The firm’s CX team is up for the recognition for its high-impact work, innovative approach, and industry leadership, including its groundbreaking legal operations consulting program, which arms legal ops leaders with bespoke solutions that add value for their legal departments. This is the third consecutive year the CX team has been recognized in the Best Business Team category.

Best Professional Development InitiativeThe firm is also a finalist for the Best Professional Development Initiative for its Client Development and Executive Leadership Program (CDEL), an intensive, nine-month program that brings together a diverse group of partners for in-depth training and one-on-one coaching focused on strengthening client relationships, growing new business, and developing effective teams. The CDEL program has served as the foundation for several other professional development initiatives launched at the firm, including an advanced program for CDEL alumni, new partner and practice group-specific training, and Troutman Pepper’s “Business Development Blueprint” series for all attorney levels.

Legal Services Innovation Award

The Legal Services Innovation Award recognizes a law firm that has made significant strides in the last two years to innovate how it delivers legal services. Troutman Pepper is up for the recognition for its development and implementation of Athena, a generative AI assistant — one of the first released by any large law firm. Since Athena’s launch, the firm has experienced overwhelming success and adoption by over 1,000 users, representing more than 40% of attorneys and professional staff. More than 60% of Athena users have used it at least five times. The firm is also recognized for its Pathfinders Summit, which brought together law firm leaders to discuss the implications of AI for the industry.
