Reed Smith is pleased to announce that Thuy Nguyen, a partner in its Real Estate Group, was named to the Daily Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” list for 2024. At Reed Smith, Nguyen has built a reputation as a go-to lawyer who gets deals done to her clients’ satisfaction.

The Daily Journal profiled Nguyen for her confidential work on several “high-stakes real estate transactions across the country” for major REIT clients, and for managing and closing “large portfolios of properties involving complex issues, often under extremely aggressive timelines.”

The Daily Journal also noted that Nguyen is “a first-generation lawyer and the daughter of Vietnamese war refugees” who began her legal career nine years ago while attending UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) as a 2015 summer associate at Reed Smith. She was promoted to partner on Jan. 1, 2024.

From the beginning, Nguyen was mentored by leading Reed Smith real estate partners Jim Eskilson and Stephane Nguyen in Century City, with whom she has worked on real estate deals worth more than $1.2 billion in the aggregate in just the last two years.

Today, Nguyen is the mentor. She has served on Reed Smith’s Hiring Committee since 2017 and focused on recruiting diverse talent while cultivating the next generation of legal leaders. She also serves as an integration mentor for lateral hires and first-year associates, helping new arrivals integrate, meet internal benchmarks, and consider career promotion and compensation issues.

Nguyen also is the deputy partner chair of the Pacific and Asian American Lawyers and Staff (PAALS) business inclusion group, which promotes the interests of Asian-American talent within the firm and the broader communities and fosters opportunities for professional, personal and cultural growth.

At her alma mater, UC Law San Francisco, Thuy serves as an alumni coach for the law school’s distinguished moot court program, teaching students how to think analytically and improve their oral advocacy skills.

In addition to the Daily Journal “Top 40 Under 40” honor, Nguyen was named a 2024 “Rising Star” by The Recorder and a 2024 “Woman of Influence” by GlobeSt. She also has been selected through peer review for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America "Ones to Watch" list for Real Estate Law, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
