California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. today confirmed that Reynaldo Rivas, Maria C. Gonzalez, and Johnny Sandoval — three former members of the Orosi Public Utilities District (OPUD) Board of Directors — have resigned from their respective positions. Mr. Rivas, Ms. Gonzalez, and Mr. Sandoval ran for reelection to the OPUD Board of Directors in the November 5, 2024 election but did not prevail. After Attorney General Bonta and Secretary of State Weber sent a letter to the three individuals earlier this week, reminding them of their obligation to vacate their offices, Mr. Rivas, Ms. Gonzalez, and Mr. Sandoval agreed to do so by yesterday’s noon deadline set forth by the Attorney General and Secretary of State.
“From the White House to a local community water board, the will of the people must always be respected. I appreciate that Mr. Rivas, Ms. Gonzalez, and Mr. Sandoval decided to do the right thing and step down from their positions on the OPUD Board,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta. “Now, the duly elected members will be seated, and they can work on addressing the community’s pressing issues. At the California Department of Justice, we will continue to protect the integrity of our elections process.”
“I am pleased that the rule of law has prevailed and that voters of the Orosi Public Utility District will be heard,” said Secretary of State Weber.
