In a shocking case of alleged violence, a California resident has filed a lawsuit claiming severe physical and emotional harm after an altercation in San Francisco. The complaint was filed by Hing Moon Lau on June 16, 2025, in the Superior Court of California against Shuang Wu and Qianlian Li. The lawsuit outlines accusations of assault and battery, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The incident in question occurred on May 21, 2023, when Hing Moon Lau was parking his car at Silver Avenue in San Francisco. According to the complaint, Defendant Wu accused Lau of colliding with his vehicle and began verbally insulting him. The situation escalated when Defendant Li allegedly restrained Lau from behind, allowing Wu to strike him with a flashlight. This attack reportedly left Lau with significant injuries including head trauma and required immediate medical attention at San Francisco General Hospital.

Lau's legal team asserts that the defendants' actions were not only violent but also premeditated and malicious. "Defendants’ brutal assault caused severe physical and mental injuries," states the complaint. Follow-up examinations revealed persistent injuries such as facial abrasions, musculoskeletal damage, and even sensory deficits due to thalamic damage from head trauma. Furthermore, Lau claims ongoing psychological issues including PTSD as a result of the attack.

Seeking justice for these alleged offenses, Lau is pursuing general and special damages against both defendants. He is also requesting punitive damages under California Civil Code Section 3294 due to what he describes as "oppression or malice" by the defendants. In addition to compensation for medical expenses incurred from extensive treatments ranging from chiropractic care to psychotherapy sessions, Lau seeks attorney’s fees and other court-related costs.

Representing Hing Moon Lau are attorneys Darius T. Chan and Henry Yu from CCD Law Group P.C., based in San Francisco. The case is being heard under Case No.: CGC-25-621472 in the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco.
