State Farm General Insurance Company has filed a lawsuit seeking damages against an individual in San Francisco for allegedly causing extensive property damage. The complaint was filed on February 10, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco, naming Alfonso Bazurto as the defendant.
According to the complaint, State Farm General Insurance Company claims that on March 7, 2023, property owned by their insureds, Imeldine and Lance Blair, was negligently and recklessly damaged by Bazurto. The incident occurred at 3840 Cesar Chavez Street in San Francisco when Bazurto allegedly hired workers to repair a driveway adjacent to the Blairs' residence. The workers reportedly demolished parts of the residence's foundation without consent or knowledge from the owners. As a result of this alleged negligence and reckless conduct, significant damage was caused to the Blairs' home.
State Farm asserts that due to this incident, they had to compensate their insureds for the damages incurred. They claim that they have become subrogated to all rights of their insureds concerning the amounts paid for these damages. The insurance company is seeking $74,596.74 in damages from Bazurto and any other involved parties (referred to as Does 1 through 10), along with interest at a rate of 5% per annum from the date of filing the complaint.
The plaintiff is not only seeking compensatory damages but also punitive and exemplary damages against Bazurto. They argue that such relief is warranted given what they describe as intentional misconduct on part of the defendants. Additionally, State Farm seeks recovery for costs associated with bringing this suit and any further relief deemed appropriate by the court.
The case is being handled by attorneys Todd F. Haines and Shan H. Yamamoto from the Law Offices of Todd F. Haines based in Agoura Hills, California. The case has been assigned Case ID CGC-25-622239 in front of an unnamed judge at this time.
