In a gripping legal battle that underscores the importance of consumer safety, a California resident has taken on two corporate giants over a product that allegedly caused severe injuries. Aliah Azzam Atiyeh Abdo filed a complaint against Amazon.com Services LLC and Comfier US Corporation in the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, on April 29, 2025. The lawsuit accuses these companies of negligence and liability concerning a defective product that reportedly resulted in significant harm.

The plaintiff, Aliah Azzam Atiyeh Abdo, claims that she suffered debilitating injuries from using a Comfier Shiatsu Neck Back Massager with heat and compression purchased through Amazon.com. The incident occurred on May 13, 2023, when the massager allegedly malfunctioned during use. According to the complaint, Abdo was using the device as intended when it caused severe spinal injuries. She argues that both Amazon and Comfier are responsible for promoting, marketing, distributing, and selling the defective product without adequate warnings or safety measures.

Abdo's lawsuit is built on several causes of action: negligence for failing to warn consumers about potential dangers, negligent products liability for not ensuring the product's safety before sale, strict products liability due to defects in design or manufacturing, and breach of implied warranty of merchantability. The complaint highlights how these alleged failures have led to Abdo's severe physical trauma requiring extensive medical care.

The plaintiff contends that both defendants were aware or should have been aware of the potential risks associated with their product but failed to provide necessary warnings or take corrective actions. "Neither the SUBJECT MASSAGER nor any accompanying materials contained any warnings that were sufficiently adequate," states the complaint. Furthermore, it alleges that both companies continued to sell and market the massager despite knowing its potential hazards.

Abdo seeks various forms of relief from the court. She demands general damages for past and future physical and emotional suffering beyond jurisdictional limits. Additionally, she requests special damages covering medical expenses and loss of earnings capacity. Prejudgment interest and coverage for legal costs are also sought as part of her compensation package.

Representing Abdo in this case is Christopher B. Adamson from Adamson Ahdoot LLP based in Los Angeles. The case has been assigned Case No.: 25CV464700 under Judge Y. Chave’s review at the Santa Clara Superior Court.
