SAN FRANCISCO – Sephora USA Inc. is suing the law firm that the company had an attorney/client service agreement with over an alleged breach of contract.

The California-based company filed a lawsuit Dec. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Francisco Division against Palmer, Reifler and Associates, P.A. (PRA).

According to the claim, PRA represented Sephora as the company pursued damages for theft offenses in 2005. In exchange for the services, PRA would receive a percentage of the amount collected, the suit states. In July 2014, Sephora was served a class-action complaint citing allegations of improper conduct by PRA in connection with its performance, the claim states. Sephora purportedly filed a demurrer and motion to strike the complaint, and the motion was granted June 18. Sephora alleges it demanded in writing that PRA bear the costs of the defense, but it has refused.

Sephora is seeking damages in the amount determined by the trial, attorneys’ fees and costs incurred, and interest permitted by law. Adam Brezine of Bryan Cave LLP in San Francisco will represent the plaintiff.
