Lennar Mare Island accuses insurance company of breach of contract

SACRAMENTO – A Vallejo company claims an insurance company failed to provide insurance benefits.

Lennar Mare Island LLC (LMI) filed a complaint on Feb. 12 in the U.S. District Court Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division against Steadfast Insurance Co., citing breach of contract.

According to the complaint, LMI entered into agreements with the city of Vallejo to clean up Mare Island, formerly a Navy base, for residential/commercial use. The plaintiff alleges that, on March 30, 2001, it obtained an insurance policy with the defendant to cover potential increased costs of pollution conditions not known to them. The suit states that LMI has presented claims to Steadfast, but it has failed to provide benefits. The plaintiff holds Steadfast Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to respond to claims and benefits in a timely manner. which allegedly caused LMI to lose millions of dollars.

The plaintiff seeks the following: compensation for all monetary damages, prejudgment interest, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just and proper. It is represented by Ryan L.
