Record companies sue online music service over alleged copyright infringement

SAN FRANCISCO – Several record companies are suing a San Francisco business over allegations that it is unlawfully distributing copyrighted works without authorization.

Arista Music, Arista Records LLC, Laface Records LLC, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment US LATIN LLC and Zomba Recording LLC filed a complaint on Feb. 26 in the U.S. District Court Northern District of California, San Francisco Division against Radionomy Inc., Radionomy SA, Radionomy Group B.V. and Alexandre Saboundjian, citing copyright infringement and unfair competition.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they sustained and will continue to sustain damages due to their works being infringed upon. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly distributed through their online music service several, if not thousands, of copyrighted sound recordings of the plaintiffs' without paying any royalties.

The plaintiffs seek the following: compensation for all damages, including permanent injunction against the defendant, legal fees and any other relief the court deems just and proper.
