Illustrator files copyright suit against Vungle

Copyright 09

SAN FRANCISCO – A Texas-based illustrator alleges a San Francisco business published one of his works without his permission.

Jim Frazier filed a complaint on May 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Vungle Inc. citing copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Dec.11, 2015, the defendant published plaintiff's illustration with one of its articles about crowdfunding when the original illustration was commissioned by the Wall Street Journal in 2012. The suit states the illustration was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks enjoin defendant from using his works, statutory damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Glenn Janik, Rajkumar Vinnakota and Jane Harrington of Janik Vinnakota LLP in Dallas.
