Illumina Inc., Illumina Cambridge files suit alleging patent infringement

SAN FRANCISCO – A manufacturer of DNA sequencing instruments claims a competing device on the market uses its patented design.

Illumina Inc. and Illumina Cambridge LTD filed a complaint on May 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Qiagen N.V., Qiagen GmbH, Qiagen Gaithersburg Inc., Qiagen Sciences LLC, Qiagen Inc. (USA), Qiagen Redwood City Inc. and Intelligent Bio-Systems Inc. alleging patent infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that the defendants' GeneReader DNA sequencer infringes on the plaintiff's '537 patent.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek enjoin the defendant from further infringing the '537 patent, award all damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. They are represented by Edward R. Reines and Derek C. Walter of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP in Redwood Shores.
