OAKLAND – One of the partners at Edison, McDowell & Hetherington LLP continues to be seen as a top lawyer.

Jodi K. Swick has been honored by Super Lawyers and included in their 2016 list of Northern California Rising Stars. This is the second time that Swick has made the list; her name was also selected in 2013.

"I am grateful to be in a narrow class of individuals who receive this type of recognition,” she told the Northern California Record.

Having worked in the areas of insurance coverage, business and class-action disputes, she has been successful in insurance coverage cases such as general liability, personal lines, entertainment liability and employment liability. She has also represented insurers, financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies and startups who have been accused of unfair competition in court.

"After practicing in this area for 10 years, I continue to enjoy the intellectual stimulation of insurance coverage law and the fact that it is ever-changing. This, coupled with the wonderful clients I represent, makes it a very satisfying law practice.”

Swick said that having such honors reflected well, not only on her career but for what she could offer clients as well.

"My clients know that the person who is their advocate both in court and to opposing counsel is at the top of the litigation class and presents a reputable, honest and impressive face for the company.”

Swick obtained her J.D. at the University of California at Berkeley in 2003.

She said that her expertise and career have expanded over the years to offer clients the representation they needed.

“Insurer clients have larger needs on a litigation front than just coverage. Insurance carriers are being sued in class-action matters under a variety of consumer statutes. Our coverage practice is evolving to meet the needs of our clients, which includes consumer class actions and industry representation, along with advocacy before the Department of Insurance. My practice continues to evolve to meet the needs of my clients.”

She has served the California Women Lawyers by acting as a member of the executive committee, treasurer and the first vice president since 2009.

One of the founding partners of Edison, McDowell & Hetherington’s California office, she believes in the firm’s ability to serve clients.

“Our clients keep coming back to us again and again to represent them in many states outside of California and Texas, where we have offices. This speaks volumes to both our success in litigation and the service we provide.”

The firm was recognized by Chambers & Partners USA, which has been ranking the best lawyers for more than 25 years.

The Litigation Counsel of America, an honorary society, has also named Swick a Fellow. There are only about 3,500 Fellows, of those less than 1 percent are from the United States.
