Thomson Reuters employee alleges she was not paid full disability benefits

Insurance 05

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles County woman alleges she was underpaid disability benefits.

Remy Renault filed a complaint on Sept. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against UNUM Life Insurance Co. of America and the Thomson Reuters Long Term Disability Plan citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 18, 2013, during the course of her employment, plaintiff became entitled to benefits under the terms and conditions of the defendants' long-term disability plan. She alleges she was receiving less than what was based on a reasonable interpretation of UNUM’s policy terms and circumstances of her employment history, as a result, plaintiff was damaged for loss of full disability benefits.

The plaintiff seeks payment of disability benefits due, costs, attorneys’ fees, interest and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Glenn R. Kantor and Andrew M. Kantor of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
