SACRAMENTO – Three outreach workers, or "peacekeepers," allege the San Joaquin County city that employed them did not properly compensate them.
Manuel Casillas, Stanley Thomas and Pheakdey Youn filed a complaint on Sept. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against the city of Stockton and Does 1 through 5, citing the Fair Labor Standards Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs worked for more than 40 hours per week without being paid any overtime compensation or the federal minimum wage. The plaintiffs holds city of Stockton and Does 1 through 50 responsible because the defendants allegedly required the plaintiffs to be available outside of their regularly scheduled hours, on call and to respond to contacts at all times without compensating them.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek liquidated damages, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. They are represented by Gary Basham and Nancy L. McCoy of Basham Law Group in Walnut Creek.
