SACRAMENTO – A Raisin City couple alleges the wife was injured because of poor lighting conditions at a post office.

Kathy and Danny Martin filed a complaint on Nov. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against United States of America and Does 1-25 alleging dangerous property conditions.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Kathy Martin visited a U.S. Postal Service Office in Fresno County on Dec. 10, 2013, to pick up her mail. As she was traversing the grounds of the lowly lit premises of defendants' building, the suit states she tripped on the concrete sidewalk and fell, which caused her to suffer from a fractured cheekbone, multiple bodily injuries, physical pain and mental anguish. Additionally, Danny Martin alleges he was deprived of the services of his wife.

The plaintiffs holds United States of America and Does 1-25 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to warn the public of the hazardous conditions of the property, failed to direct its employees to inspect, maintain and repair the lighting source on the property and erect warning signs.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants, damages, interest, and further relief as the court deems just. They are represented by Edward B. Chaotoian of Law Offices of Edward B. Chaotoian in Fresno.
