Copyright 13

LOS ANGELES – A Claremont business is accused of using musical compositions for public performance without paying the owners any license fees.

Broadcast Music Inc., et al. filed a complaint on Nov. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Fahima Ghafarshad and Nangyalai Ghafarshad, individually and doing business as Walter's Restaurant & Bakery, alleging copyright infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they suffered damages from having their musical compositions used without permission. They allege they have contacted the defendants more than 25 since 2013 about purchasing a license. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to respond and purchase a license for the use of plaintiffs' musical compositions.

The plaintiffs seek enjoin the defendants, statutory damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. They are represented by Jeffrey W. Kramer and AnnMarie Mori of Troygould PC in Los Angeles.
