Woman seeks payment of disability benefits she alleges were wrongfully terminated in 2015

Insurance 08

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles woman alleges her disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Adriana Ramirez filed a complaint on Nov. 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Unum Life Insurance Co. of America and Does 1 to 10 citing the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2012, she became disabled and was initially receiving disability benefits until they were terminated. The plaintiff holds Unum Life Insurance Company of America; and Does 1 to 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated plaintiff's disability despite having sufficient medical proof and even after several appeals.

The plaintiff seeks damages, long-term disability benefits payable at the rate of $2,029.74 from June 2015, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Bernard R. Schwam of Law Office of Bernard R. Schwam in Encino.
