Man files suit for long-term disability benefits from LINA

Insurance 01

LOS ANGELES – A Bodycote USA employee alleges he is disabled because of orthopedic conditions and that he was wrongfully denied long-term disability benefits.

Adel Abdou filed a complaint on Nov. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Life Insurance Co. of North American and Does 1 to 10 alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2014, he became disabled and was initially being paid disability benefits until they were terminated by the defendant. The plaintiff holds Life Insurance Co. of North America and Does 1 to 10 responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated plaintiff's disability benefits despite having sufficient medical proof to support his claim.

The plaintiff seeks damages, disability benefits payable at the rate of $1,944 plus interest from April, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Bernard R. Schwam of Law Office of Bernard R. Schwam in Encino.
