Carl Zeiss Inc. alleged to have infringed university's patented technology with scanners

SAN FRANCISCO – A Korean research university alleges a New York corporation makes scanners that use its patented technology.

SungKyunKwan University, Research and Business Foundation filed a complaint on Dec. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Carl Zeiss Inc. alleging that the New York corporation violated laws through unauthorized distribution of an intellectual property.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 7, 2011, it was awarded with patent '639 titled Method and System for Determining Optimal Exposure of a Structured Light Based 3-D Camera. It alleges the defendant has infringed this patent with its 3-D scanners.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant, permanent injunction enjoining defendant from further infringement, damages, interest, costs incurred, and further relief as the court may deem just. It is represented by Kris LeFan of Lowe & Associates PC in Los Angeles and Hao Ni, Neal Massand and Tim Wang of Ni, Wang & Massand PLLC in Dallas.
