Driver seeks damages of more than $500,000 after collision with border patrol officer

SAN DIEGO – An El Centro man alleges he was injured in a motor vehicle accident with a federal employee.

Jose Covarrubias filed a complaint on March 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California against the United States alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 13, 2015, he was injured when his vehicle was struck on the driver's side by the United States Border Patrol Officer Robert Dominguez. As a result, Covarrubias claims he suffered physical injuries, lost wages and incurred medical expenses. 

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for property damages in the amount of $5,820.59, loss of earnings amounting to $1,459.25, general damages in the amount of $500,000, cost of suit and such further relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Judith Y. Pierson of Yeager and Pierson in El Centro.
