Former Cargill Inc. employee alleges wrongful termination

Wrongful term 01

FRESNO – A man formerly employed as an ammonia refrigeration mechanic at Cargill alleges he was terminated because of an on-the-job injury.

Richard Geiger filed a complaint on May 2 in the Fresno County Superior Court against Cargill Inc., Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. and Does 1 through 20 alleging that the defendants violated the California Fair Employment Housing Act and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 27, 2016, plaintiff suffered severe head injuries due to a sledgehammer striking him in the head while at work. The suit states he was advised at the medical center to work on light duty. On March 2, 2016, plaintiff was allegedly terminated due to his head injury or in retaliation for his report of injury and his request for accommodation in the form of light duty work.

The plaintiff holds Cargill Inc., Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. and Does 1 through 20, inclusive responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated him based on his physical disability and need for continuing medical treatment.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for general, special and compensatory damages, prejudgment interest, costs of suit, and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper. He is representing himself.
