FRESNO — A Fresno County woman has filed a class action lawsuit against the owners and operators of a sewing company, alleging harassment and wrongful termination.
Erin Cox, individually and on behalf of other current and former employees, filed a complaint Oct. 6 in Fresno County Superior Court against Ralph Hitter and Veronica Hitter doing business as Authorized VAC & SEW, Jessica Hitter; and Does 1 through 50, alleging violation of the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA).
According to the complaint, in May 2016, Cox started working for the defendants. During her employment, the suit says, she was subjected to unfair treatment for being a full-time mother, never provided with adequate meal and rest periods and not properly compensated any overtime pay and work travel expenses.
The lawsuit states when Cox tried to complain about the unfair treatment, she was terminated Oct. 6, 2017.
Cox alleges the defendants failed to reimburse expenses incurred in employment, failed to provide overtime and pay wages upon termination and failed to provide accrued sick time and denied the right to use sick time.
Cox seeks trial by jury actual, compensatory, incidental and consequential damages, punitive damages, attorney fees, court costs, and all other relief the court deems proper. She is represented by attorney George J. Vasquez of Fresno.
