Client accuses Cigna of violating ERISA

Insurance 07

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles County woman is suing Cigna Insurance, alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).

Laura B. filed a complaint Nov. 15 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company,  alleging violation of ERISA through non-payment of plan benefits.

According to the complaint, on March 26, 2015, Laura B. a young woman with an eating disorder since she was 14, suffered damages from Cigna's wrongful denial of her disability benefits on the basis that her treatment was not medically necessary and against her rights under the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff alleges Cigna wrongfully failed to authorize and pay for medical services rendered to her, failed to provide prompt and reasonable explanations of the basis for the denial of the plaintiff’s claims and failed to properly and adequately investigate the merits of Laura B's medical claims.

Laura B. seeks trial by jury, payment of health care benefits, costs, attorney fees, interest and all further relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney Elizabeth K. Green of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
