FRESNO — A Veterans Day parade participant is suing a motorist, alleging negligence led to injuries.

Clifford Mayer filed a complaint Nov. 2 in Fresno County Superior Court against Ronald Stebles and Does 1-20, alleging failure to exercise standard care and skill required in operating a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 11, 2015, Mayer was attending the Veterans Day Parade in Fresno and was attempting to sit on one of the floats. The suit says Stebles negligently operated his vehicle that collided with the float, causing the wooden frame to break and give way. As a result of the crash, Mayer says he suffered injuries and damages from falling off the float, lost wages and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to adequately maintain and operate a motor vehicle so as not to cause harm, and failed to be on a proper lookout for other vehicles.

Mayer seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages of more than $25,000, costs of suit and all other relief the court deems fair. He is represented by attorney Kara L. Hitchcock of Hitchcock Law Inc. in Fresno.
