LOS ANGELES — A Los Angels fabrics business is suing competitors, alleging copyright infringement.
Star Fabrics Inc. filed a complaint Feb. 14 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Audrey Stewart Inc., Eva Franco Inc. and Does 1-10, alleging they illegally distributed an intellectual property without authority from owner.
According to the complaint, Star Fabrics has sustained and will continue to sustain substantial, immediate, and irreparable injury, from the defendants’ for-profit, unauthorized reproduction, distribution, and exploitation of plaintiff’s copyrighted two-dimensional artwork for use on textiles tagged as 65667.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants created or developed derivative works from Sta Fabrics' copyrighted design without consent from the plaintiff, and received money and profits that rightfully belong to the plaintiff.
Star Fabrics seeks trial by jury, all profits from infringement, attorney fees, prejudgment interest, costs of action, and all further legal and equitable relief the court deems proper. It is represented by attorneys Stephen M. Doniger and Howard S. Han of Doniger / Burroughs in Venice, California.
