Motorist blames government vehicle for crash

Car accident 13

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles County woman is suing the U.S. government, alleging one of its employees caused a vehicle crash.

Cindy Wai Gong filed a complaint Feb. 26 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Thomas Leroy Babecky, the United States of America and Does 1-10, alleging they failed to exercise standard care and skill in the operation of a vehicle.

According to the complaint, on April 14, 2017, Gong was driving her 2000 Toyota Camry west on Willow Street in Long Beach. The suit says a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs van driven by Babecky ran a red light and crashed into Gong's car.

The suit says Gong she sustained injuries to her person and property, pain and suffering, mental anguish, terror, anxiety and loss of the ability to enjoy life.

The plaintiff alleges Babecky failed to pay attention to traffic and keep a proper lookout for other vehicles, and failed to maintain proper speed and distance between vehicles to avoid collision.

Gong seeks trial by jury, general and special damages, litigation expenses, costs of suit and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorney G. Seth Mitchell of Law Offices of Scott Warmuth APC in City of Industry.
