Patron alleges Redondo Beach restaurant is not ADA compliant

LOS ANGELES – A Redondo Beach restaurant is alleged to not have compliant parking spaces and restrooms for persons with disabilities.

Sergio Munoz-Guzman filed a complaint on May 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against JB&L Inc., doing business as Chili Verde, and Does 1-10, alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff uses a wheelchair and he alleges that on Nov. 1, 2017, he visited the defendant's business. He alleges he encountered barriers at the restaurant, which included a lack of compliant parking spaces and accessible restrooms. 

The plaintiff holds JB&L Inc. and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to comply with federal and state standards for designated parking space and van access, failed to post required signage and failed to make alterations to accommodate persons with disabilities.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants for preliminary and permanent injunction; statutory, general and treble damages; restitution; attorney’s fees; litigation expenses; costs of suit; interest; and further relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Jason Yoon, John Y. Kim and Jason J. Kim of So. Cal. Equal Access Group in Los Angeles.
