Woman alleges she could not reserve ADA-complaint room online for Skyriders Motel

SACRAMENTO – An Arizona woman alleges she was not able to reserve an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant room online at a Sacramento hotel.

Theresa Brooke filed a complaint on May 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California against Manisha N. Waland and Nareandra D. Waland, both doing business as Skyriders Motel and skyridersmotel.com, citing the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is legally disabled and requires ADA-accessible rooms at hotels. She alleges that she suffered discrimination and difficulty on her attempt to book a hotel room with the defendants' business because their website does not allow for the reservation of ADA-accessible rooms in the same manner and during the same hours as a patron who can reserve non-accessible rooms.

The plaintiff holds Manisha N. Waland and Nareandra D. Waland responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to make its website reservation system fully and equally accessible to plaintiff and other disabled persons.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks declaratory judgment against defendants, damages, attorney’s fees, costs and other relief the court deems just. She is represented by Peter Kristofer Strojnik of The Strojnik Firm LLC in Phoenix.
