LOS ANGELES – A Santa Clarita woman is appealing the termination of her disability benefits by an insurance company.

Heidi Heinrich filed a complaint on June 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. alleging breach of contract and breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff became disabled from working in 1999, but the defendant terminated her benefits in July 2017 without a change in her condition.

The plaintiff holds Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly unreasonably withheld benefits from her and failed to investigate her claims.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant, reinstatement of all benefits, general damages for mental and emotional distress and other incidental damages in the sum of $1 million, punitive and exemplary damages in an amount of more than $5 million, treble damages, attorney's fees, costs of suit and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Glenn R. Kantor and Brent Dorian Brehm of Kantor & Kantor LLP in Northridge.
