FRESNO – A former resident of a Fresno County skilled nursing facility alleges a lack of adequate care led to the amputation of his leg.

Sherman Morales filed a complaint on Oct. 15 in the Fresno County Superior Court against Golden Living Center and Does 1 to 100 alleging medical negligence, dependent adult abuse and negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was discharged to the defendants' facility in July 2017 after several surgeries on his knee. He alleges from the date of his admission through Aug. 17, 2017, he was denied adequate, reasonable medical care and treatment, causing him to suffer neglect, abuse, infection and serious injuries. He alleges this denial of care led to the amputation of his right leg.

The plaintiff holds Golden Living Center responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to change wound dressings, failed to adequately clean his wound, failed to treat fever and failed to diagnose and treat infection.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for damages; sums incurred for services of hospitals, physicians, surgeons, nurses and other medical supplies and services; costs of suit; and such other and further relief as the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by Stacey R. Cutting and Fahd Z. Ali of Bishlaw in Newhall.
