SAN FRANCISCO – A radio host alleges his age and race were factors in his termination.
Brian Copeland filed a complaint on Dec. 18 in the San Francisco Superior Court against Cumulus Media Corp. and Does 1-10 over alleged violation of the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff, who is African-American, was employed by KGO Radio for many years before it was purchased by the defendant in 2011. He alleges the defendant "never accepted him nor treated him fairly because of his race," and that he was terminated Jan. 12, 2018, as part of a "purge" of older employees. He alleges he was replaced by a younger man.
The plaintiff holds Cumulus Media Corp. and Does 1-10 responsible because the defendants allegedly terminated him because of his race and age.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages; attorney fees; expert witness fees; and costs of suit. He is represented by Angela Alioto and Steven L. Robinson of Law Offices of Joseph L. Alioto and Angela Alioto in San Francisco.
