FRESNO – A widow alleges the failure of medical entities to administer medication to her late husband while in their care contributed to his death.

Virginia Corriea filed a complaint on Dec. 20 in the Fresno County Superior Court against Beverly Healthcare-California Inc., doing business as Golden Living Center Clovis; Dycora Transitional Health-Clovis; Abbas Hasnain M.D.; and Does 1 through 200 alleging wrongful death and elder abuse.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 17, 2017, Virginia Corriea's husband, Thomas Corriea, was in the care and custody of defendants as a patient for recovery of hip fractures sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

The suit states the defendants failed to administer medication to prevent deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism on Dec. 14, 2017, and Thomas Corriea died of a pulmonary embolism in his left lung on Dec. 21, 2017.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to take all the necessary steps to properly care for Thomas Correia, failed to adequately inform his physician of the nature and extent of his medical issues, and failed to adequately and completely carry out doctor’s orders for their treatment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for general and special damages, attorney's fees, costs of suit, and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper. She is represented by Monrae L. English of Wild, Carter & Tipton APC in Fresno.
