The Monarch hotel guests allege they were bitten by bedbugs during stay

Lawsuits

SAN FRANCISCO – Two guests at a San Francisco hotel allege they were bitten by bedbugs during a 2017 stay.

Santos Medrano and Julia Diaz filed a complaint on Feb. 1 in the San Francisco Superior Court against The Monarch Hotel; Francis Penalba and Does 1 through 20 alleging battery, negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 3, 2017, the plaintiffs checked into a room at the defendants' hotel. They allege the next day, they found bedbugs in their bed and the concierge confirmed they were bitten by bedbugs. The suit states the plaintiffs sought medical treatment, were diagnosed with bedbug bites and were given medication.

The plaintiffs hold The Monarch Hotel, Penalba and Does 1 through 20 responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to eradicate a prior bedbug infestation of the room the plaintiffs stayed in and did not ensure that the bed was free from bedbugs before renting it to plaintiff.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment for general, specific and punitive damages, costs of action, prejudgment interest, and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper. They are represented by Ilan N. Rosen Janfaza of The Law Offices of Ilan N. Rosen Janfaza in Beverly Hills.
